Designed by our Creator, we are naturally creatures of love and worship. We must adore something! When directed towards the right things, our adoration can be the epitome of our existence. The greatest point of our existence is to glorify God and enjoy him forever, and at the heart of this is love and worship.
So after watching the ridiculously popular show "The Bachelor" last night, being indignant at Jason's decision, and through what my wife and I have been learning about love, I felt that it was appropriate to a series of blogs about our favorite most overused, most misunderstood attribute...love.
1,000 choices a day. That's how many opportunites we have to show our love to God, our spouses, and our families. Life is always a series of decisions that must be made and how we make those decisions and who we take into consideration for those decisions reflects our heart, and who we ultimately love, ourself, God or others.
Short definition: Love is Giving! The question must be asked, what is the opposite of love? We all may be quick to say that hate is the opposite of love. This is not true! You may easily not love something without inherently having hate for that thing. So therefore, the opposite of love can not always be hate. The opposite of Love is selfishness.
Ephesians 4:22-24 speaks volumes of Old man (self) vs. New man (in Christ). The old man is constantly seeking to please himself and makes decisions for himself based on his feelings. The new man makes decisions based upon the Word of God, his love for God, and his love for others, particularly his family. This is love, let us not confuse it with mushy feelings.
